James McDonaldGerman National Railways (DR) class 112 diesel-hydraulic sits at the platform in Greifswald, Germany the morning of German reunification. In Greifswald, these units were primarily used in push-pull service with 4-unit articulated doubledecker trains. Yes, that is a steam loco in the background, but by this date it had been converted to a stationary heating boiler (10/03/1990).

Markus EngelLong distance train of the russian army from Brest to Erfurt is arrving at Erfurt Main Station. The whole scene has completely changed today, because the main station is completely rebuildt for ICE traffic in the future.
The Soviet sleeper train had been hauled across Finland by VR Class Sr1 electric locomotive 3091 and looked an impressive sight in the open platforms of the station (enclosed by a glass roof since 2000), although the staff on board were somewhat perturbed by the pesky photographers on the platform – shutting the curtains to stop us looking in! The carriages were hauled back out of the station at 12.45pm by Dv15 diesel no. 1979.
VR Class Sr1 electric locomotive 3077 at Helsinki Central Station in July 1984:The first of the Sr1 class locomotives were built in 1973 and are still in service with Finnish Railways today. Although safe in the short term, the class is scheduled to be replaced by 80 Siemens Vectron locomotives between 2017 and 2026). In contrast, the first of the Dv15 class diesels was built in 1958 and the last examples were withdrawn from service in 2004.
