Автор фото: James McDonaldThe WLABm class long-distance sleeping cars of the Soviet Railways (SZD) traveled throughout Europe and the Soviet Union. They were built to the smaller European loading gauge and carried two numbers. The number between the windows, 017 03651, is the number in the sytem used in the USSR, while the longer number below, 52 20 70-80 456-6, is the number of the car in the UIC system, used in most of Europe.
Автор фото: James McDonaldBerlin Lichtenberg was always a great place to see trains from all over Eastern Europe. Center in this photo is a first class coach of the Hungarian National Railways (MÁV) in an international train. To the left is a second class Hungarian car, and to the right a first class Romanian coach (12/10/1990).
Автор фото: James McDonaldA WLABm sleeping passenger car of the Polish National Railway (PKP) has just arrived in train D315, the "Gedania" (Gdynia to Berlin) and sits on the platform in Berlin Lichtenberg station. "Sleeping Car" is spelled out over the windows in multiple languages. The "WARS" lettering is the herald of the Polish agency that managed sleeping and dining cars. The train has been pulled from the Polish border by a DR class 232 diesel locomotive. Directly behind the locomotive is a Polish couchette car in the olive livery (12/10/1990).
